I live in my comfort zone. It’s kind of nice here. Comfortable. You know. Everything in it’s place. The problem with this is that the growth, the good stuff, the life stuff all happens outside those nice little hedges we set up for ourselves.
It’s normal to want to stay right where we are and live life in the easy. We all do it at some time or another. I’m just as guilty as the next person.
Lately, though, I’ve been stretching my boundaries. As a writer, and as a human, the only way I’m going to be used by God in a way that He wants is for me to take a deep breath and step over the line. I have to put myself out there and let the world have it’s say.
The thing that gets me most, is that I keep waiting for life to get easy again. But I’ve come to the realization that won’t be happening anytime soon. This stepping out of the comfort zone is often our own choice. There are times when it comes without our bidding, but most often we have to just do it. And we have to keep stepping out.
Sherri Shepherd, who is an author and actress, has said, “The best piece of advice someone has ever given me was ‘do it scared.’ And no matter if you’re scared, just go ahead and do it anyway because you might as well do it scared, so it will get done and you will feel better if you step out of your comfort zone.”
So, I take a deep breath, say a prayer, and steel myself for what may come and I do it scared.
